And we're off....

A is for Analysis...feels like pre-school all over again:)

Having identified the practice gap of correctly plotting the measurement of the symphysis-fundal height (how high the top of the womb is from the pubic bone)on the first visit of a pregnant woman, especially when she has unsure menstrual dates or no early ultrasound, provides the impetus for this project. The implications for apprpriate care is big especilly when gets to a point of having to decide whether a woman id post-dates(over due). So getting the first recording right is very important in the care that pregnant women receive. So glad the WHO beat me to the partogram one, the gravidogram would be so much simpler, I think....

Now to get hold of a high resolution digital copy of the gravidogram.

  1. Sounds interesting. So who will your learners be and what will the context be for your input on teaching SF height? Cheers. Bob.

  2. Thanks for the comment Bob, mmmm.... context. Being part of the teaching team for 3rd and 4th year obstetrics I would think that I could aim the tool at these students because of my direct involvement with clinical antenatal care teaching. Midwives could also benefit from the tool if it is loaded onto PC's in clinics and MOU's. All MOU's have PC's in the West Metropole because of the Health Information System platform Cradle and the presence of the tool could serve as both a reference and a teaching tool at these facilities, whre midwives and students could access these.

  3. Good for you....figuring out a simpler yet similar way to tackle this! Is there any way in which you could maybe incorporate taking digital pics of the mom's belly (by the nurse/midwife/student) and loading that onto the PC, then using a measurement device similar to those used in architechtuaral software (think AutoCAD)to measure electronically along with the traditional measurement. Then this could be linked to patient files.
    Just a thought.....

Keep on 'labouring' with your project, sounds good :)
